Dr Mohd Fairuz Zamani

Fairuz Zamani graduated with a PhD in Music Performance from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, focusing on performing works by a Malaysian composer, Razak Abdul Aziz. He also holds postgraduate degree in musicology and undergraduate degree in music composition from University of Malaya and Universiti Teknologi MARA, respectively.

Among his notable works as a composer include Nuance of Rebab Fantasy (2013) and Mek Mulung Cycle (2018), commissioned by Jabatan Kebudaayan dan Kesenian Negara for The National Choir of Malaysia. He also premiered his short song cycle Images (2017) at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) as part of Malaysian Composer Series 2017 programme.

He was also the resident arranger for The National Choir of Malaysia from 2008 to 2013. Currently serving at School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia as an academic, Fairuz also actively plays with the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia as a tutti player.

He is also a repetiteur and had worked with several soloists across the globe, amongst were Yi Lana (Mongolia), Heidrun-Maria Hahn (Germany), Jadwiga Kotnowska (Poland), Gary Packwood (USA), and Ranko Kurano (Japan), as well as local soloists and opera productions.
